You probably think you're being healthy when you order or prepare a nice big salad for lunch. (Though you should check out our list of salads that will make you fat to make sure you're not eating one of the bad ones.)
But you could be ruining all of the health benefits and low calories of those veggies by drenching your salad in dressing—even if the dressing bills itself as "light" or "lite." All this label means is that the product contains 1/3 fewer calories or 50 percent less fat than the orginal—and if the original product wasn't very healthy, the lighter product will only be slightly better.
What should you do instead? Drizzle your salad with some balsamic vinegar and perhaps a touch of olive oil for some healthy fat and a lot of flavor without all the artificial ingredients found in "light" dressings.
