Drinks That Won't Make You Fat

Which would you rather have: a generous slice of velvety chocolate cake or a fruity, oversized maragarita? There's nothing wrong with either, as long as you realize that they both have about the same number of calories. A large margarita, with tequila, margarita mix and sugar, weighs in at a whopping 550 calories, while a jumbo frozen margarita has more than 700 belt-busting calories.
When you're at happy hour with your coworkers, it can be easy to be lured in by the fruity cocktails, but if you're watching your waistline, you may want to steer clear. Dessert-like concoctions like mudslides, white Russians and pina coladas not only hit the 300- to 400-calorie range, but they also contain fat from the cream. Even tonic water is not as benign as it seems—believe it or not, a bottle of tonic water has 110 calories and a mind-blowing 27 grams of sugar.

If you're watching your calories, you're better off sticking with the basics: beer and wine. A typical bottle of beer has about 145 calories, while light beer weighs in at about 100 calories per bottle. A glass of wine, red or white, averages just under 100 calories. So stay away from the creamy, fruity or froufrou drinks and you'll do just fine!
