Snack Without Guilt

When you're looking for a crisp and crunchy snack, don't automatically turn to chips or pretzels. Instead, try the food the Japanese have been snacking on for ages: edamame. These boiled green soybeans have a somewhat nutty flavor and are fun to eat, especially when you slide them out of the pod with your teeth!
A half-cup of edamame has 120 calories with only 2.5 grams of fat, 9 grams of fiber and 11 grams of protein, which will help fill you up and keep you satisfied much longer than a junk-food snack ever could.

Buy your edamame fresh (just boil and serve) or frozen (just thaw and serve), either in the pods or already shelled. Besides serving them as a tasty finger food, you can add the beans to salads, pasta or soups for a healthy Japanese twist.
