Go Nuts at Snack Time

Go Nuts at Snack Time

Which do you think is the better snack pick: one ounce of peanuts or one ounce of potato chips?

At 166 and 154 calories, respectively, there doesn't seem to be much difference.

But numbers only tell part of the tale, says Emily Gelsomin, R.D., clinical nutrition specialist with Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Unlike chips, peanuts are packed with fiber and protein, which are more filling and nutritious than the empty calories found in potato chips.

Just remember that these and other nuts are calorie dense, so don't go overboard. Measure out a single serving and stick to it. Then pair that with a serving of fresh veggies, fruit or low-fat cheese for a healthy snack that really satisfies.
