Obama Confuses Good Guys With Bad Guys

Two months after the oil spill occurred, President Obama has agreed to meet with top BP PLC officials to discuss the disaster in the Gulf of Mexico.

Explaining why he had not wanted to meet with BP, Obama told Matt Lauer on NBC’s “Today” show that “my experience is when you talk to a guy like a BP CEO, he’s going to say all the right things to me. I’m not interested in words; I’m interested in action.”

Meanwhile, Mitt Romney has asked: “How can it be that the person who’s actually working to try and cap this spill hasn’t even spoken to the president of the United States?”

Before running for president, Obama had no experience managing anything. As illustrated by Romney’s comment, we now are seeing how foolhardy it was to elect him president. While BP and its partners caused the oil spill after cutting corners, we now need the company on our side. President Obama’s practice of publicly denouncing BP and allowing Attorney General Eric Holder Jr. to announce a criminal investigation only threatens the viability of the company.

Already, BP stock has lost half its value. Driving down the price of the company’s stock hurts millions of Americans who own stock in the company directly or through pension funds. If BP declares bankruptcy, it will take years for its assets to be distributed to help clean up the oil spill.

But Obama has little grasp of capitalism. A serial spendthrift, the president is blind to the fact that BP cannot pay for the oil spill if it is insolvent.

Obama offered to meet with BP officials only after the media pressured him to do so. In contrast to his disinclination to meet with BP, during the campaign, Obama said he was willing to sit down and talk without preconditions with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the man who wants to wipe Israel off the face of the map.

As president, Obama was willing to have a beer at the White House with Henry Louis Gates Jr. after the Harvard professor was obstreperous with police investigating a report of a break-in of his home in Cambridge, Mass.

Obama is “very passive against our enemies, which only emboldens them,” Sen. John Cornyn told me for the Newsmax story "Sen. Cornyn: Obama Is Blind to Islamic Extremism." With friends, he is “if not hostile, at least neutral,” tending to treat enemies “in some respects, better than our friends and allies.”

We should not be surprised at Obama’s pattern of confusing good guys with bad guys. For 20 years, he listened to the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. Obama considered Wright not only his minister but also his mentor, sounding board, friend, and adviser.

In Wright’s world, Louis Farrakhan is a good guy: He gave him an award for lifetime achievement. America and Israel are the bad guys: “God d--- America!” he shouted.

In the same vein, Obama has said that, if BP CEO Tony Hayward worked for him, he would have fired him.

“Leadership is getting someone to do what they don’t want to do, to achieve what they want to achieve,” Tom Landry has said. Instead, Obama is busy dissing our ally in fighting the oil spill while planning to demand that BP voluntarily create an escrow account to cover future claims.

Count on Obama to emerge from the meeting with BP full of bravado, childishly saying he is trying to determine “whose ass to kick.”

But having confused the good guys with the bad guys by demonizing BP, Obama has torpedoed his own efforts.
