Secretary of State Hillary Clinton finally has gotten ahead of Barack Obama in popularity with the American people.
According to Dana Milbank, writing in The Washington Post, Americans these days have warmer views of the secretary of state than they do of the president.
Depending on the particular measure and the poll, she now outstrips Obama by 10 to 25 percentage points.
One reason for the turnaround, suggests the author: Obama is frantically engaged in damage control over the public perception that his administration has been weak in its response to the oil spill.
Meanwhile, stateswoman Hillary Clinton has been garnering praise for being a "passionate leader" in the fight against human trafficking and slavery.
Clinton grabbed positive headlines by pledging to abolish this "horrible crime" against human dignity. "Traffickers must be brought to justice," she said.
