3 Snack Foods That Fight Hunger Best

Sometimes you need a little something to tide you over until dinnertime. But the biggest challenge with snacking is choosing foods that will satisfy your hunger and not totally ruin your diet. Here's a head-to-head look at some snacks to see which keep you fuller longer—and some of the answers may surprise you!

1. Cheese stick vs. yogurt: Yogurt's the better choice here because you get more—eight ounces in a cup of yogurt versus one ounce in a cheese stick. The extra food will take longer to digest and help you stay satisfied.

2. Baked potato chips vs. whole-wheat pretzels: If you're craving something salty and crunchy, either of these makes an okay snack since they're similar in carbs, calories, protein and fiber. That said, the best choice of all would be soy-based chips, since they contain more protein that can stave off your hunger longer.

3. Watermelon vs. grapes: Common sense might dictate that 10 grapes would keep you fuller than one cup of watery watermelon, but it's the water that makes the melon a better choice. Although it has a few more calories than grapes, the watermelon will make your belly feel fuller.
