Sure, most of us crave the occasional cheeseburger or chicken wings. But now that fast food chains will be required to post nutritional information as part of the new healthcare plan, once we see the scary amount of fat and calories we'd be downing, we may think twice before ordering these fast foods:
1. KFC's Double Down: The one that's gotten all the hype lately, this monster "sandwich" consists of two pieces of fried chicken with bacon, cheese and sauce in between. This one's a fast food nightmare at 540 calories, 32 grams of fat and 1,380 milligrams of sodium.
2. Burger King's Texas Triple Whopper: If you opt for the regular version, you'll be downing a whopping 1,310 calories, 88 grams of fat and 1,990 milligrams of sodium. Skip the cheese and mayo and you'll take it down to a slightly more respectable 520 calories with 23 grams of fat and 880 milligrams of sodium—somewhat acceptable for those once-in-a-while burger cravings.
3. Dunkin' Donuts Coffee Cake Muffin: When you get a craving for something sweet, you might be better off choosing a donut. This muffin weighs in at 660 calories, 26 grams of fat and 520 milligrams of sodium.
Finger-Lickin’ Good?
KFC isn’t new to “the heart-stopper belly-buster food game,” says registered dietitian Dawn Jackson Blatner, author of The Flexitarian Diet. But their newest sandwich entrĂ©e, The Double Down, is in a class of its own. The buns are actually two pieces of fried chicken, which keep two slices each of cheese and bacon and a dollop of sauce from dripping on your blouse. With 540 calories, 32 grams (g) of total fat and 1,380 milligrams (mg) of sodium, it’s a fast-food nightmare. A better bet: the Honey BBQ Sandwich, with 310 calories, 4g of fat, and 810mg of sodium. - By Joan Raymond
