Why Every Bite Counts

If you try to cook to make sure you're eating healthy, make sure you're not falling into a common cook's trap – tasting your food as you prepare it. It may seem harmless, but trying spoonfuls of everything you're making could add up to excess calories above and beyond the meal you'll be eating!

Richard Sandoval, chef and owner of 28 restaurants nationwide and abroad, agrees: "They're such small bites and sips, the temptation is to write them off, but they do add up, so I try to limit them."

This was even backed up by a recent study that showed cutting out 100 calories a day could help prevent weight gain in most people. So what to do to prevent sampling? Try chewing a stick of gum to keep your mouth occupied as you cook – and then you'll be even more ready to enjoy your dinner when it's ready!
