Question: My parents both suffer from hearing loss. Are there any practical steps I can take to avoid this? I'm 36.
Dr. Hibberd's Answer:
Hearing loss is a major form of disability not often discussed. Many of us do not recognize the gradual loss in our hearing as we age.
I recommend you have a complete hearing evaluation. This is painless and there are no needles. Many county health departments will conduct this testing for free, or ask your family doctor to refer you to an Ear, Nose, and Throat specialist.
Early recognition of hearing loss is important. The earlier we detect it, the more ways we have to treat it.
