Brides Use Feeding Tube For Quick Weight Loss Before Wedding Read more: Brides Use Feeding Tube For Quick Weight Loss Before Wedding Important: At Risk For A Heart Attack? Find Out Now.

Medical authorities are expressing shock and dismay over a new crash diet trend among brides-to-be who resort to using a feeding tube to slim down quickly before their weddings. “I don’t believe in using feeding tubes that way,” Dr. Daisy Merey tells Newsmax Health. “It’s just a quick fix.” Dr. Merey, a bariatric specialist in West Palm Beach, Fla., and author of “The Merey Way to Healthy Weight,” was responding to reports that women seeking to shed 10 or 15 pounds quickly before their big day are turning to a new diet called K-E. Under the plan, they eat no food, but instead subsist on a constant feeding-tube drip of protein and fat, mixed with water, which totals 800 calories a day for 10 days. SPECIAL: These 5 Things Flush 40 lbs. of Fat Our of Your Body During this time, the woman keeps the feeding tube in her nose and, if she goes out she totes the solution along with her, in her purse, for instance. The diet, which is done under a doctor's supervision, is a recent import from Europe, and has some observers wondering if a feeding tube will become the next must-have bridal accessory. The radical diet supposedly allows a weight loss of 20 pounds in 10 days and costs about $1,500. Jessica Schnaider said she went on the diet before her wedding to get rid of a quick 10 pounds. “I don’t have all of the time on the planet just to focus an hour and a half a day to exercise so I came to the doctor, I saw the diet, and I said, ‘You know what? Why not? Let me try it.’” Schnaider told Good Morning America that she felt fatigued while the feeding tube was in, but she did manage to lose the 10 pounds. The diet is not only potentially unhealthy, says Dr. Merey, but a bride who uses it is not likely to look her best on her wedding day because of the rapid weight loss. She questions whether the K-E diet provides enough protein. “It’s very important to get enough protein because, if they don’t, they can lose muscle mass, and they won’t look good for the wedding,” she said. Also, any weight loss from the K-E diet will likely be very temporary, says Dr. Merey. If a bride-to-be wants to go on a crash diet, Dr. Merey says that nutritional shakes are a safer and healthier alternative to a feeding tube. “You don’t have to use a feeding tube to lose weight,” she says.
