Good Carbs, Bad Carbs, Smart Carbs and More

The decline of the popular low-carb craze is not an excuse to hop back on the white bread train. In fact, studies show that moderating your carb intake can help you keep your weight down and cut your risk of heart disease. The problem with carbs is not really a problem with carbs at all it’s a problem with your perception of carbs.

Most people make the mistake of grouping all carbs into one category, defining them as one single entity, when in reality the word “carbohydrate” encompasses a wide range of foods. There are simple carbs, complex carbs, low-glycemic carbs, high-glycemic carbs, smart carbs, junk food carbs, and more.

Instead of banning all carbs, get smart by choosing whole grain breads and cereals, increasing your daily intake of fresh fruits and vegetables, and steering clear of processed foods made from white flour and sugar.
