The Surprising Benefits of Coffee
If you've been trying to resist your coffee cravings, some new study results might make you reconsider. New research suggests that drinking coffee may increase muscle power and endurance during exercise. So far, the tests have been done only on rats, but researchers say there's a good chance the effect on humans is similar. The problem is that achieving these results may require drinking five cups of coffee, which is not great for anxiety and jitters.
Instead, even drinking just a cup or two of coffee a day before working out may help with exercise performance. Past studies have shown that this can help relieve exercise-induced muscle pain and after-workout soreness by as much as 50 percent. Prefer to drink your caffeine post-workout? Another study reports that drinking caffeine after exercise may help muscles refuel faster.
The bottom line: If you exercise, you may not need to give up your coffee habit after all.
