Do you ever find yourself craving something sweet when you're on the computer for a long period of time? It may not be all in your head—new research suggests that staring at a computer screen makes us crave things like chocolate and cupcakes.
The possible reason: The stress of computer work triggers fluctuations in blood sugar and hormone levels, causing the body to think you've burned a lot of calories that need to be replenished. Unfortunately, as we all know, sitting at our desk or on the couch while staring at a screen doesn't burn much of anything!
What can you do if you have to sit at a computer for hours on end? Get up and take breaks as often as you can. Take a short walk or, even better, go to the gym. Getting physical can help break the craving cycle.
