3 Holiday Foods to Avoid

With the holidays coming up, it's worth remembering that not all festive foods are created equal. Although it makes sense to sample small portions of the foods you crave most at this time of year (and it's hard to refuse at least trying the dishes if you're at a family gathering), we've gathered a list of holiday favorites so you can pick and choose what dishes to indulge in. Here are a few to start:

Turkey breast or turkey thigh? Always go with the turkey breast. The thigh, which is dark meat, is especially high in saturated fat.

Candied yams or mashed potatoes with gravy? Choose the yams, which have more fiber—just scrape off the marshmallows first.

Green bean casserole or cornbread stuffing? Believe it or not, you should indulge in the stuffing over the green bean casserole, which usually contains fatty cream of mushroom soup and unhealthy fried onions.
