3 Secrets to a Healthier Salad

If you think all salads are healthy, think again. It's all about the ingredients. If you pile on too many fried or fatty extras or dressings high in sugar or fat, your once-healthy salad could become a dieter's nightmare. Here are three tips to finding a salad that's still delicious but won't add to your waistline:

1. Slice up some jalapenos. Jalapeno peppers are a great source of capsaicin, which can boost metabolism and regulate blood sugar.

2. Add in garbanzo beans. Want to stay full longer? Try some beans, which contain both filling fiber and protein, in your salad.

3. Stick to the whites. If you want some eggs on your salad, try topping it with egg whites rather than the entire egg—one egg contains a whopping 215 milligrams of cholesterol.
