Yes and no. The good news is that if you crave chocolate, some studies have shown that a daily dose of the dark kind may lower LDL cholesterol by as much as 10 percent! But as delicious as chocolate is, you'll still want to enjoy this indulgence in moderation. Why?
1. Chocolate contains three types of fat, two of which are saturated.
2. It's high in calories—one ounce of chocolate contains about 160 calories. Most chocolate bars are 1.5 to two ounces, meaning they contain 240 to 320 calories!
3. Chocolate could cause weight gain due to the excess fat and calories if you partake too much—and that could actually raise cholesterol levels.
