The Best Italian and Mexican Dessert Picks

Even if you're trying to lose weight, it's okay to indulge in a real dessert now and then. But not all desserts all created equal. What you need to keep in mind when giving in to a dessert craving is which dessert is the best and which is the worst choice. Here's a look at two sets of common restaurant desserts that may be calling your name—and which ones you should answer to or ignore:

Cannoli vs. Tiramisu: When you want a sweet end to your Italian meal, you'd be better off choosing the cannoli. At about 250 calories and 5 grams of fat, it's virtually a health food compared to the tiramisu—Olive Garden's version has a whopping 510 calories and 32 grams of fat.

Flan vs. Mexican Fried Ice Cream: If you're dining Mexican-style, say adios to the fried ice cream and hola to the flan. Though both desserts contain milk, sugar and eggs, which add up in fat and calories, the flan is baked, while the ice cream is fried—making the flan a slightly healthier pick.
