How Baked Potatoes Help You Lose

The poor spud got a bad rap during the recent low-carb craze. But potatoes have a lot to offer if you're craving something filling and nutritious without a lot of calories. Here are three ways that potatoes can fit into a healthy diet:

1. They're high in phytochemicals and vitamins. The nutrients in potatoes can help protect against cardiovascular disease, plus they're high in vitamins C and B6 and potassium.

2. They're a great source of dietary fiber. Most of the fiber is concentrated in the skins, so be sure to eat them along with the insides to fill you up fast.

3. They're low in calories and high in protein. One baked potato has about 6 grams of protein and fewer than 300 calories. Top your spud with veggies, beans or some low-fat cheese for a tasty and satisfying snack or side dish anytime.
