Simple Steps to Stop Sugar Overload

With the recent U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report that says one in three Americans could have diabetes by the year 2050, it's time to reduce your own chances of developing this disease. And one of the best places to start is with your diet. Since sugar is one of the biggest culprits for obesity, why not begin by cutting some of the hidden sugar from your meals?

Let's take a look at your regular breakfast. Do you find yourself craving something sweet in the morning? The problem is that many processed breakfasts contain even more sugar than you might think. Here are a couple of examples:

A Low-Fat Frosted Strawberry Pop-Tart may sound harmless—but it lists sugar as the first, second and third ingredients! To cut out half the sugar, try a slice of warm whole-grain toast slathered with a tablespoon of 100 percent fruit strawberry jelly.

Maybe you think you're doing your body good with a Cosi Fresh Fruit Yogurt Parfait. But this innocent-looking breakfast contains a whopping 41 grams of sugar! Instead, try Cosi's fresh fruit salad and a whole-grain Squagel, which has only 2 grams of the sweet stuff.
