Pomegranate's Weight-Loss Power

Why make the effort to get all of the seeds out of a pomegranate? Because the health and weight-loss benefits may be worth the hassle. (If you want to save some time, some supermarkets and health food stores sell the seeds already removed for you!)

Pomegranates are high in antioxidants, which fight inflammation in the body, as well as vitamin C. In fact, there's evidence that pomegranates may contain even more antioxidants than cranberries, green tea or red wine. There's also some evidence that eating pomegranates may help to reduce risk of heart disease and prevent buildup of plaque in the blood vessels.

Although you can also get the health benefits of pomegranate by drinking its juice, you may want to eat the natural fruit instead to save some added calories. One medium pomegranate has only about 105 calories and half a gram of fat.

Pomegranates are at their peak right now, so it's a great time to try their tangy, crunchy seeds. Soon you too will be a believer in the power of the pomegranate!
